The Wedding Highlights of 2024 (and some reflections)
There’s always a moment that happens a few minutes before I arrive at a wedding — a whisper of nerves appears in the pit of my stomach and reminds me of the importance of my work. It’s a gentle feeling of excitement and anticipation — what will I encounter today, and how can I honour it? How can I, to the best of my ability, immortalise this wedding in a way that does justice to the enormity of the occasion? And how can I do it without putting myself at the centre of the day?
The answer has always been the same. I try to capture what is happening without interfering, open and ready to receive the moments that present themselves. My aim is to document the occasion in a way that is unobtrusive and unpressurised. Who am I to dictate how your wedding photos should look, and how could I ever try to reduce this to a list of photographs?
A lot of the emotions on display at weddings are universal — joy, laughter, relief, anticipation, nostalgia, pride, gratitude, sadness elation, excitement and so on. Even so, each wedding feel so utterly unique. I’ll never forget Polly & Andrew’s energetic exit to Frank Sinatra’s New York, New York ahead of their move from London to New York, after they successfully pushed their wedding forward six months. Or Harriet’s beaming smile as she and Alex exited the church in Windsor. As I put together my best photos of 2024 I looked for pictures that reminded me of what each wedding felt like, but also about what they all had in common — the all-encompassing feelings that make weddings so magical.
Throughout the 39 celebrations I witnessed this year my approach stayed the same - candid, unobtrusive and discreet, but always with a smile on my face. I want couples to be able to look at their photos and relive the day how they experienced it, not my version of it.
I feel so lucky to work with couples whose vision aligns so well with my approach and I have them to thank for another fantastic year. Thank you to all the couples that continuously trust me. Thank you also to the incredible venues and vendors, both old and new, which I had the privilege of collaborating with this year. I’m very grateful to do this for a living, and it’s not something I take for granted.
Here are my favourites.
